A SAFETY MANAGEMENT SOLUTION FOR AN HVAC COMPANY
SITUATION OVERVIEW

A successful HVAC company was facing an evolving safety and risk management landscape. Safety was a priority, but lacking a comprehensive safety management framework made it difficult to measure the performance of their safety program, communicate with technicians in the field about known safety issues, and prevent issues ahead of time. Creating and maintaining an effective safety culture was also a challenge, without a communication strategy that enabled them to follow up on safety issues with centralized corrective actions management.
These issues increased risk and led to higher costs. The company was looking for a comprehensive solution which provided the flexibility to evolve as it continued to evolve.

OUR SOLUTION

eSafety Systems offered an end-to-end technology enabled risk and safety management solution.
Our first step was to partner with the company to analyze their existing processes, working with them to create a comprehensive safety framework and standard operating procedures.
Together we created a solution for more effective processes and standardized the ones that already worked.
After determining an effective framework, eSafety Systems provided a tailored technology platform to collect, track and analyze the data with a focus on continuous improvement.
The resulting program includes mobile Job Hazard Analysis, performed by the technicians prior to the start of the job. Another implemented process is Safety Observation Reports (picture) with a requirement for each employee to find at least three safety observations either positive or negative per week. All Safety Observations roll into a weekly inspection. This became an effortless task with the Mobile Safety Observations capability and was a major step in changing the safety culture of the company. The company also implemented hot work and confined space mobile management. Lastly, electronic monthly inspections are completed by the safety personnel and superintendents. Corrective actions are automatically communicated to all relevant individuals which provides for swift resolution.
Fewer incidents meant a better working environment for every person involved. The safety team also became much more efficient, with easier data collection and storage methods that allow them to focus their efforts on the most pressing safety concerns. Powerful analytical tools are utilized to monitor performance, take action and to ensure continuous improvement.
Since the start of the program Total Recordable Incident Rate decreased to well under 0.5.
Overall, the company is able to address problems before they occur, which significantly decreases the number of incidents and associated costs.
